Situated in the mountains / hills above Rincon de la Victoria, El Borge is a beautiful “Pueblo Blanco” (white village) in the Axarquia region of Spain.
Casa Almendra is central (on the coast) to the Axarquia / Andalusia region of Spain and within striking distance of all of the locations in the video below:
El Borge’s sister village (pueblo) is Almachar where they hold the “Fiesta de Ajoblanco” in September every year.
Ajoblanco is a cold soup / drink made from garlic and breadcrumbs (main ingredients) and is a subtle concoction that is served with grapes. It is distributed to visitors for free around the village during the fiesta along with a white wine. There is a whole fiesta based around this famous soup, with dancing and music in the streets and people come from miles around (in coaches and cars) just to visit Almachar on this very special day
Rincon de la Victoria
Orgulloso de ser Rincón de la Victoria (Proud to be Rincon de la Victoria)
Just 15 minutes from Casa Almendra, is Rincon de la Victoria. Set on the coast, it is close enough for shopping or a day on the lovely beach with perhaps a visit to a chiringuito for lunch?
The following sequence of photos (assembled by Francisco Cervantes in 2014) from past years, depicts a Spain of yesteryear and the sense of community that still exists in Spain today.
