Walking up El Cielo (1465 m)
2014-12-12 – We started from the Nerja caves (Cuevas de Nerja) and head uphill in a northerly direction for nearly 4 hours. The climb is “difficult” but we were led into it gently from the car park. We chose to park opposite the Caves car park and did not incur charges.
We discovered (too late) that it is possible to drive up the track for a few Kms, instead of walking, as there were a number of cars when we arrived further along.
As I said, it is a relatively easy start which “warms” one up for the strenuous climb later in the day. We began on dirt roads and by the end of the “climb” (literally in places) we were on shale and loose stones and climbing ragged rocks.
The top holds a Steel crucifix which is functional rather than artistic.
All in all, it took us 4 hrs to reach the summit and three hours to get back down, by which time we were all very tired and our feet hurt from the constant standing on stones and shale.
A good day out, but very, very hard!!!
Walking Up Mount Maroma (2066 m)
2014-11-23 – We met in Arenas and all went to Fogarate (our walking start point) in one vehicle.
From Fogarate, it was a 3 hour round trip, although we did pace it out a bit.
This was not too difficult a walk, although some parts are awkward and steep.
A very enjoyable day out with Gary (Wainwright), Scott (Strike Off), Simon (Sole less) and myself.
