We travelled to Quarteira, Portugal today, as we are going to do an overnight in a hotel before we go to the housesit tomorrow afternoon. The journey here was (almost) uneventful, so it took about 7 hrs including stops.
One of the stops was for lunch at a place called Restaurante Los Mellizos on the motorway. The guy almost insisted that we had a Tuna Sandwich each, so we agreed and ordered a soft drink each as well. The tuna sandwich turned out to be a roll, rather than bread. It was very nice, but when Sue went to pay, the bill was nearly €17!! Yes, we baulked too!! It turned out to be the most expensive item on the snack menu at €6.90 for EACH sandwich. When I complained, he said it was the price on the menu and shrugged……
Unfortunately, I am unable to find the restaurant on Trip Advisor or I would have slagged them off for deceit.
So we arrived at the QuarteiraSol Hotel and it is lovely. I asked reception how much it would have cost, had we booked directly (I used www.Booking.com) and it would have been €86 for the room, plus breakfast cost. I got it €76 including breakfast. So just shows that there are excellent saving s to be made by using Booking.com.
We have been out walking in the afternoon and we found some great examples of the skill / art of crochet…..
……then back to the hotel for a nap followed by a shower and then out for some dinner. We found a Dutch restaurant on the front (the hotel is about 100 metres from the beach). The restaurant is called Bar Atlantico Bistro. The burgers were excellent. We can highly recommend this place. Hot food, well cooked and served with a smile and all in English. two Angus burgers with chips and a couple of beers, was just over €20.
Unfortunately, the weather here is still a little cold for us and this area (beach front) has very little going on, so we had to come back to the hotel and do some internet surfing and blogging.
We had a very nice and pleasant day. We will see what tomorrow brings 🙂
